Fabric Collaged Greeting Cards
Monday, 02 November 2009

Here’s another creative use for fabric scraps and beautiful papers: make your own fabric greeting cards, invitations, or art for the walls! It’s cheap and it’s easy. Let your imagination run wild!

Materials:

Blank note card or card stock
Piece of fabric or handmade paper that measures 1-1 ½” smaller than
note card for background
Glue stick
Fabric scraps
Scissors
Pencil
Ruler
To embellish: sequins, ribbon, dried flowers and leaves, etc.

Directions:

To make the background, put glue on the backside of the fabric or
special paper piece and position it in the center of your note card.
Lay out fabric scraps to make a design that will be glued on top of
the card’s background. You can either make an abstract grouping of
complimentary fabrics or cut and paste to create the illusion of a
landscape (such as an ocean scene), a still life (bowl of fruit, for
example), or a solitary object (such as a tea pot, single blossom or
bouquet of flowers).

Even do your own impression of a famous piece of
artwork, like Van Gogh’s “Starry, Starry Night” but with fabric
pieces instead of paint! Let the colors and textures of the scraps
you have inspire the one-of-a-kind composition you create!

Use the glue stick to generously cover back side of fabric or paper
scrap and then press onto the background of your note card.

Use sequins, ribbon, dried flowers and leaves, etc. to embellish and/
or frame your picture.

Optional:
Sign and/or title your artwork along the bottom edge of note card.
Glue completed note card collage to a larger piece of darker colored
card stock to frame it and set-off the colors.
